With the intention of orienting the graduates and young professionals towards and building their capacities in rural/ social/ tribal development, the Grassroots Institute offers two summer schools of 2-months each. The Summer Schools for 2006 (as the topics change each year) are:
(1) Social Work in Mountain and Tribal Areas, and
(2) Development Reporting and Communication at Grassroots. These summer schools are completely field-based and practical, and undertaken in Himachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Dominant by field practices amid the local communities, the Grassroots Institute arranges tutorials and counseling right in the field and the participants physically live/ eat with local families in different districts. Summer Schools begin in early June and end in early August with the grant of the CERTIFICATE. |

Schoolchildren are the leaders of tomorrow. To inculcate proper sensitivities and leadership towards ecological, cultural and development issues, Grassroots Institute organizes several ECOLeadership Schools throughout the year. On 2-weeks long school the schoolchildren are taken in group to Great Himalayan National Park, Pin Valley National Park, Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve, important wetlands and biodiversity hotspots in Western Himalayas and tribal treasure like Bastar, where they not only learn various things live but also interact local communities immensely. They also undertake group work in villages/ ecosystems where they camp for several days. At the end, participants are granted with CERTIFICATE. |
