Brief Bio

Caecilia Alexandre recently submitted her PhD thesis in Law, which she is writing at the Faculty of Law of Université Laval (Québec) in co-direction with the Université de Montréal. Her research focuses on the respect of the cultural rights of Indigenous peoples within the UNESCO Heritage Conventions. She also holds a Master's degree in Transnational and International Law from Université Laval and a Master's degree in Public Law from Université Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne.

She is currently a Lecturer at Université Laval and the Institut d'études politiques de Rennes. She teaches a course on "Cultural diversity and sustainable development" and "International law of indigenous peoples", respectively.

Since 2011, she also has extensive experience with various non-governmental organizations dedicated to the safeguarding of local and indigenous communities’ heritage and the defense of their cultural and territorial rights in Tanzania, Mauritius, Morocco and Canada.

She has also worked as a Consultant to UNESCO and as a legal assistant at the International Tribunal for Rwanda.

She is a regular member of the UNESCO Chair on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and a member of the International Student Climate Network (UniC).
