Brief Bio
Associate Professor (Dr.) Chandradeo Bokhoree is presently the Head of the School of Sustainable Development and Tourism (SSDT) at the University of Technology, Mauritius (UTM). He holds a first-class bachelor’s degree from the University of Mauritius and a PhD degree from Loughborough University in the UK. He was also a Research Scholar at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in the USA, prior to joining the UTM in 2004. His research interests relate to sustainable systems, environmental health, climate change and sustainability. He focuses on the development and application of sustainability assessment tools and metrics using modelling techniques as well as adaptive technologies through interdisciplinary approaches in key areas; environmental and energy systems, carbon footprint, climate change and social impact analysis. He has worked on several funded research and consultancy projects in collaboration with a wide range of local and international organizations (Ministry of Local Government, Disaster and Risk Management, Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste and Climate Change, Mauritius Research and Innovation Council, Higher Education Commission, Mauritius Standard Bureau, Indian Ocean Commission, UNDP, UNIDO and Shell Mauritius Ltd). He has been the principle investigator of numerous sustainability-based research and consultancy projects in Mauritius and other African countries. He has a proven track record of extensive research publications in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences. During his tenure at the UTM, he has served the University through key managerial positions, among others as Head of Department, Head of the Centre for Applied Research for Sustainable Development, Member of the Board of Governors and Planning & Finance Committee. He always considers teaching as a noble profession and imparting sustainable knowledge to his students is one of his core values. He currently teaches interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate courses related to sustainable development. He is the Programme Director/Coordinator for the MSc Sustainability for Business, Society and Environment and MSc Climate Change, Health and Disaster Management programmes.
