Brief Bio

For more than 33 years, I have been engaged with in-depth action research on sustainability issues, based on which I have published 105 papers, including 58 journal articles, 3 books , 40 book chapters and 4 popular science articles. In addition, I have successfully completed 5 major and 4 minor research projects and currently engaged in three major action research projects. I have guided 18 PhD candidates. Post-retirement, I am assigned the following responsibilities:

• Consultant Coastal Ecologist – Conducting Vulnerability Assessment of India’s coastline (13 Coastal States) and Development of a Decision Support Tool for Adaptation planning with a particular focus on Gender operated by TARU, New Delhi and funded by UNDP, New Delhi, August – July 2021
• Member, Expert Panel of an explorative research study “AgroEco2050: Foresight on Natural Farming in Andhra Pradesh” led by Rythu Sadhikara Samstha (RySS), AP, Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement (French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development- CIRAD), France and FAO, Italy- 2020-2021
• Technical Expert/Ecologist- “Assessment of Ecosystem Services – Livelihood Linkage For Integrated Management of Bhitarkanika Ramsar Site, Odisha”, operated by TARU, New Delhi and funded by GIZ, Dec 2020 –June 2021
• Adjunct Faculty, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, Mysuru, Feb 2021 to Feb 2023.

I am the Editor-in-Chief, Grassroots Journal of Natural Resources; Editor -International Journal of Innovation and Sustainable Development, Inderscience publishers; Editor, Journal of Ecology & Natural Resources, Medwin Publishers.

I am the only speaker invited from India for the international Sustainable Campus Network's 6th annual conference in Eugene, Oregon (USA) - June 19th -21st, 2012 and I am one of the few Indian faculty invited for the Interactive Indo French Seminar on the Foresight Agrimonde-Terra for 2050: The Indian Perspective, and for the subsequent first high-level Indo-French summit on higher education and research.

I have Organized– 2 National level training programs; 3 regional workshops, 2 International Conference and delivered several keynote addresses in national /international conferences and workshops. I am a recipient of the Indo-German cultural exchange program (Martin Luther universitat, Halle and University of Giesson) -May-August 1993; a recipient of the Canadian Studies Faculty Research Fellowship (Simon Fraser university, Burnaby, British Columbia), Canada - May- June 1996

I am a member of of the Commission on Ecosystem Management (CEM), IUCN, Switzerland, a member of the international Advisory Council, Grassroots Institute, Canada, former member of the State Expert Appraisal Committee, Government of Puducherry and a member of the Puducherry Planning Authority Environment Cell
