Brief Bio
In 1992 I was elected assistant at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. In 1998 I received a Master's degree in Geographical Didactics on the "European Dimension in Geography Education" and in 2001 a PhD on "Challenging Geographical Content as an Educational Problem".
In 2001 I was elected Senior University Lecturer in Geography and taught Didactic of Geography and the regional geography of Anglo-America, Australia and Oceania. In the Department of Geography (Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana) I have been actively involved in the further development of Didactic of Geography and reintroduced the current system of the study of future geography teachers. In 2013 I was elected Associate Professor for Geography and teach Didactic of Geography and the regional geography of North America, Australia, Antarctica and Oceania.
I played an important role in the establishment of the Geography Teachers association in Slovenia. In 2000-2004 I was president of this association, currently I am a member of the Executive Committee. I am also active in EUROGEO, the organisation that unites the European associations of geography teachers.
From 2002-2008 I was a member of Professional Council for general education. From 2002-2005 I was a member of the Commission for General Education High Schools and from 2005-2008 a member of the Commission for Primary Schools.
I was and am actively involved in the following projects:
- Evaluating the overhaul of the geography curriculum, focusing on knowledge standards, planning and the performance of the educational process (concluded in 2002);
- EUROGEO Socrates (concluded in 2004);
- Partnership between faculties and schools I, (concluded in 2005);
- R.A.V.E. Space (Interreg II B Cadses; concluded in 2007);
- Partnership of faculties and schools II project, (concluded in 2007);
- PAM-INA (Perception, Attitude, Movement – Identity Needs Action; concluded in 2012 (LLLP);
- Let’s Meet At the Station (Education for Sustainable Mobility; concluded in 2014);
- Learning to Learn Process (concluded in 2014);
- BE – SMaRT; Border Education – Space, Memory and Reflection on Transculturality (concluded in 2018);
- Geography in the Cloud (concluded in 2014);
- Textbooks as Tools for Shaping the Geographical Imagination of Slovenian landscapes (concluded in 2014);
- YOUrALPS – Educating youth for the Alps; Interreg Alpine Space (concluded in 2019);
- HUM@N; Digital Transformation in Humanities; Erasmus+ (2019-2021);
- Sustainable mobility in kindergartens and primary schools; Ministry of Infrastructure (2018-2021);
- Sustainable regional development of Slovenia (in progress).
I regularly attend local and international congresses and give lectures and workshops. I organized numerous seminars and professional and continuing education courses for geography teachers (including: Ilešič Days, Melik Days) and international conferences (including 4th Conference on the European Dimension of Geography Teaching in the Middle, South-Eastern and Eastern European Countries in Transition, 2001; EUROGEO Conference, 2004; RAVE Space Conference, 2007; International Conference on European Identity, 2012 and Hidden Geographies, 2019).
I am the author of numerous academic and professional articles, as well as the author and reviewer of many geographical textbooks, workbooks and other works.
