Brief Bio
Professor Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam has been working as a Faculty in the Department of Environmental Science and Resource Management (ESRM), Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU), Tangail-1902, Bangladesh since 2007.
He has completed MS in Chemistry, Biology and Marine Science; and PhD in Marine and Environmental Sciences through Monbusho Scholarship from the University of the Ryukyus, Japan in 2000 and 2003, respectively, and conducted Post Doc in Environmental Ecology through JSPS Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship from the same University at Japan in 2006. Before his PhD, he completed BSc in Fisheries and MS in Fisheries Biology and Limnology from the Faculty of Fisheries at the Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh in 1995 and 1997, respectively and served as Scientific Officer in the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, Mymensingh, Bangladesh from 1996 to 1998.
He served as a Chairman of the Department of ESRM; Librarian of the Central Library; Dean of the Faculty of Life Science, Faculty of Business Studies, and Faculty of Social Science; Director of Research Cell; Director of IQA Cell of the university.
He supervised more than 140 undergraduate and postgraduate students and around 25 national research projects in his fields of expertise. Through his research works, he has published more than 156 scientific articles in national and international reputed journals in home and abroad with 2 book chapters. He also participated in more than 152 national/ international conferences, seminars and workshops; and presented remarkable scientific articles (70) in national and international conferences, symposia, seminars and workshops at home and abroad.
He has been serving as executive editor, editors and editorial board members of some reputed national and international journals in home and abroad. Professor Islam always shows keen interest in quality environmental education as well as environmental issues, problems and challenges related to tertiary level education in Bangladesh. In this regard, he is serving as life time member of more than 30 associations and societies in home and abroad.
