Brief Bio

Dr. Zhanhuan Shang got his PhD in rangeland ecology from Gansu Agricultural University (2006) in China. From 2006, He started his research career in Lanzhou University. In 2008, he underwent training in social science at Oxford University and The Macaulay Land Use Research Institute, UK. From 2008 to 2012 he did an on-the-job Postdoc in The Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research (ITP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) for the study of biological and ecological mechanism in degraded grassland on the Tibetan plateau. From 2011 to 2012, he was Visiting Scholar and joined the TERN (Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network) in the University of Adelaide, Australia. He has published more than 50 papers in international journals, and some book in Springer, CABI, NOVA etc. Now, he is Professor of ecology, in the School of Life Sciences, Lanzhou University, China, and he was invited as co-supervisor for PhD students in Tribhuvan University of Nepal for the Environmental Science from 2011 to 2015. He is the membership of IUCN Commission of Ecosystem Management (2017-2022). As the chief scientist and key researcher, from 2000, he participated in more 20 research projects including the ecological restoration, biodiversity conservation, wetland conservation, livelihood development in pastoral areas, rangeland carbon management.
