Grodno State Agrarian University
On January 17, 1951 the Council of ministers of the USSR had passed the resolution № 145 in part "Organization of agricultural institute in Grodno of the Byelorussian SSR" 175 students were enrolled to the first course of agronomical and zootechnical faculties, 25 students in the second course. At the institute worked 24 teachers, including 7 teachers were candidates of sciences. In 1962, the faculty of plant protection was founded.The faculty of qualification improvement and personnel retraining for the AIC, the faculty of economics, the veterinary medicine faculty, the faculty of accounting, the faculty of prevocational training and Career Guidance were founded later.
In December, in 2005 the first graduating students of a Higher Management School have got the second higher education. On June 30, 2000 the institute has been reformed into the agrarian university namely Grodno State Agrarian University.
More than 20000 experts graduated from the University for 55 years. They work successfully at many agriculturalenterprises, in research institutions of the Republic of Belarus,in state authorities. 8 graduate students were awarded the title of a heroof Socialist Labour, 3 are the heroes of the Republic of Belarus, 43 were awarded the title of "Honoured Agricultural Worker of the Republic of Belarus". During last years more than 44000 experts of agriculture have raised their qualification. Many village toilershave completed their tuition by correspondence without discontinuing work.
On 28 chairs work 275 teachers, among them 19 doctors and 145 candidates of sciences.
There are 6 educational buildings, 6 hostels, a canteen, a stadium, a rest centre, a library, a museum and a sports club at the university. The students take an active part in the circles of amateur art activities, in various festivals.
The postgraduate students are trained in 8 specialities, masters in 5 specialities, doctoral candidates in 2 specialities.
There is publishing PolygraphicsDepartment where textbooks, methodical and training appliances and working exercise books are published. The students of senior courses do practical work on the best farms of the Republic of Belarus and in 8 European countries.
The students have got favourable conditions for sports skill at the university. During studies, 43 students have performed the standard of "Master of Sport of the USSR", 5 students "Master of Sports of the Republic of Belarus". Among graduates are champions of the world, of the Europe of the USSR and of the Republic of Belarus. The newspaper headed "The Uniagro" is published monthly at the university.
Since 1995, the university is headed by Associate Member of the National Academy of Sciences, a Doctor of AgriculturalSciences, Professor Pestis VitoldKazimirovitch.On November 21, 2001, he was awarded the rank of a "Honoured Worker of Education of the Republic of Belarus".
