Research Center for Agricultural Sciences and Environmental Protection

The Research Centre for Agricultural Sciences and Environmental Protection was established in 2014 following the research results of the founding members, tenured teachers within the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences Food Industry and Environmental Protection of Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu.

Based on the Regulation on the recognition, establishment and operation of research units in the „Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu, endorsed by the Senate meeting of January 31, 2014, by complying with the general conditions listed in Chapter I, the Research Centre for Agricultural Sciences and Environmental Protection integrates fundamental and applied scientific knowledge corroborated with the technical ones but also political commitments assumed by Romania, for the scientific argumentation necessary to ensure sustainable development in the rural and agro-forestry-pastoral areas.

The Centre is dedicated to fundamental and applied research in the fields related to agricultural sciences and environmental protection.
It functions as an integrated part of the university educational act that cannot take place without the existence of academic research activity for constant anchoring in the realities of the latest discoveries or inventions to promote a quality education of the young generation. As the rural space in Sibiu County is still anchored in tradition, they are dedicated to exploring the traditional knowledge (TK) associated with agriculture in all its forms.
We are interested in supporting cultural events aimed to promote the value of intangible heritage related to traditional knowledge but also tangible heritage addressing the access to essential genetic resources for food and agriculture to ensure long-term food security and safety.

A major concern will continue to be the support of the members of the Centre for the inclusion of European experts in working groups and in European, pan-European and global professional organizations.
The members of our academic body collaborate with other ULBS research Centres: Research Centre in Biotechnologies and Food Engineering, Research Centre for Complex Systems Physics, Research Centre in Applied Ecology but also with other Centres in the country or abroad.
The value of the scientific research of some colleagues reaches high levels, the recognition of their activity being already a constant at international level and the participation in national and international scientific events is a constant.

Communication to the rural community and the business environment is another important direction for promoting the image of our Centre, strengthening relations of mutual respect and financial support.
Openness to collaboration and funding opportunities is an extremely important goal and the levels of access to research funds start from the budget allocated to research to that of other authorities, European, international or third-party funding programs. The research act requires a constant approach to the validation of research results.

The integration of the Rusciori farm in the research act is a major desideratum, as it can cover all areas of interest, including the supply of raw materials in the food industry, thus ensuring long-term food safety and security. In the field of Intellectual Property Law, we encourage the filing of patents, collaboration with the economic environment and the publication of research results, especially in journals recognized by ISI Web of Knowledge or Scopus.
