University of Ladakh

The University of Ladakh was established in 2019 and is the only trans-Himalayan Institute of higher learning and research. The University has its headquarters both in Leh and Kargil. The University has Campuses in both Leh and Kargil and has six-degree colleges as constituent colleges

Objectives

1. To become a cluster of vibrant institutions working to disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in such branches of learning as it may deem fit.
2. To act as a change agent by having special focus on the skills development and creation of skilled workforce by understating industry- oriented teaching , training and research, extension programs and providing employable skills with a view to contribute to the development of the society.
3. To make specials provision for integrate courses in humanities, social sciences and technology in its education program.
4. To make appropriate measure for promoting innovation in teaching and learning process and inter disciplinary studies and research.
5. To establish linkages with industry for promoting of science and technology, entrepreneurial skills, innovation etc and to adopt innovative methods to achieve the status of self reliant institution.
6. To pay special attention to the improvement of the social and economic conditions and welfare of the people and their intellectual, academic and cultural development.

Profile and Competencies

Since its establishment in the recent past in 2019, The University has signed 36 MoUs. The University has six constituent colleges working under it. The university has 23 departments Arabic, Botany, Commerce, Chemistry, Computer Sciences, Education, Environmental Sciences, English, Economic, Forensic Science Geology, Geography, History, Mathematics, Mountain Research Institute, Physical Science and Political Education, Sociology, Travel and Tourism Management, Urdu, Zoology and two research centers both at the Leh and Kargil Campuses.
