Lviv Polytechnic National University is the oldest technical higher educational institution in Ukraine and East Europe. It was founded in 1816. University consists of 17 institutes, more than 100 departments; autonomous, additional and general subdivisions. The research is conducted in the following areas: architecture and design; civil and environmental engineering; power engineering and control systems; geodesy; computer sciences and information technologies; computer technologies, automation and metrology; nanotechnologies, advanced materials and production technologies; telecommunications, radio and electronic engineering; chemistry and chemical technologies; biotechnology; mechanical engineering and transport; applied mathematics and fundamental sciences; humanities and social sciences; law and psychology; economics and management.
Viacheslav Chornovil Institute of Sustainable Development traces its history back to 1947 as the Lviv Electromechanical Technical School. The Institute was named after the Hero of Ukraine Viacheslav Chornovil in accordance with the regulation of Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in 2005. The research is conducted in the following areas: ecological safety and nature protection activity; entrepreneurship and environmental examination of goods; ecology and sustainable environmental management; tourism; and civil safety.

Subject of the study is mainly the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in the spirit of partnership and taking into account the specifics of Ukraine's development, set out in the National Report "Sustainable Development Goals: Ukraine". Viacheslav Chornovil Institute of Sustainable Development has defined priority areas of research which have to be tackled in a long-term perspective, which need an advanced scientific monitoring infrastructure, which are based on a bor-der-crossing international cooperation and include a strong component of capacity development. More than 550 students study at the institute. Our graduates can work in industrial and commercial enterprises, in the departments of environmental protection, in the departments of labor protection and safety of production, in environmental inspection, in the departments of design and operation of security systems, in tourism and recreation, in hotels and restaurants, in consulting companies, stock exchanges, insurance companies, banks, customs, public authorities and local governments, units of the SES of Ukraine, research and educational institutions.
The institute pays great attention to scientific work and advanced training of personnel. Teachers of the institute take an active part in international scientific and technical symposiums and conferences, publish the results of scientific research in international and domestic professional journals, including publications included in international scientometric databases. Following the results of 2020 our institute took the first place in a rating of institutes of University on scientific, educational and methodical and international work.
